I was sitting downtown at Piazza Bergamo in Greenville today, enjoying the spring weather. I noticed a woman sitting by herself with an open Bible. She seemed somewhat burdened. I got up to go on my way and sensed the Holy Spirit prompting me to go back and talk to her. I resisted—she was a stranger after all. Then the Warren Barfield song with lyrics “she sat a table away” (My Heart Goes Out to You) began to go through my head. I still resisted, but thought, “If I see a red car pass in front of me, I’ll turn around.” (Is that daring God to do something?) While walking back to work, I saw a red truck farther away. Nah…I’ll keep walking, thinking the car had to be closer. By the time I got back toward the church, and turned to look to cross the street, guess what I saw. "Ok, ok," I decided to stop fighting it.

I went back and approached the woman, explaining that though it may sound strange, I felt God wanted me to talk with her. She shared that she had some concerns and needed prayer, although she didn’t want to go into detail. She said she was saved and baptized. I feel she mainly needed encouragement and direction. I spent a few minutes with her, told her about the healing prayer service on Tuesday nights (yep, it's Tuesday) at the church I work for. She asked me to write that down for her. I gave her the info, prayed for her aloud right then, and left. I don’t know what will come of it, but I do know this. God wanted me to obey and He patiently kept confirming His prompting, and He will take care of the rest. Print This
