It's time to dive into what can be a controversial subject...what does the Bible have to say about women working, specifically outside the home? I've had an article in development for a long time, and could never quite seem to tie it up neatly. I started it in response to a young woman who approached me with concern about how to look at her job/family life in a biblical way. As I recall, she had some Christian women in her life who weren't exactly encouraging about the fact that she had a job outside the home. I began to think that taking a deeper look at this topic could be of help to women, so many of whom do work hard both at home and in the workplace to some degree, but the article was harder to put together than I originally thought.
So, I'm taking a different approach and instead developing a blog series first. I'm asking, "Lord, help me" as I write these posts, because I want to look into His word wisely and not make blanket statements that may or may not be fully accurate. I'm not sure how many posts this topic will take, but I'll continue weekly looking at various verses, passages and Bible women until I feel that we have covered it in an effective, accurate and encouraging way.
Most women have an opinion one way or the other, and I invite you to put your opinion aside as you take this journey with me. Let's instead take a look at what God's Word says and sense what God's guidance is overall rather than camp on one particular verse or passage on which to build an entire school of thought.
As we begin, what questions do YOU have? Please comment either on the blog or via Facebook or email at beth@hopeunlimitedforyou.com so that I can be sure to address your questions as we move along.
For today, let's consider an overarching guide from I Corinthians 10:31 and Colossians 3:17...both verses teach us that whatever we are doing....at home, the workplace, on personal time...to do it with the idea of honoring God. So the first question we need to ask ourselves about our personal choice of whether to work outside the home or not is, "Would this decision bring honor and glory to God?"
I look forward to more dialog over the next few weeks on this important topic!
