Today I attended the memorial service for a man by the name of Joel. This man had been through numerous health issues before his homegoing. He was a volunteer who helped with hospital visits for a time, accompanying pastors in his wheelchair. A joyful man with a sense of humor, he liked to visit with us in the office, lovingly teasing. He blessed people with his joy, resiliance and tenacity. He left a legacy as someone who suffered and yet instead of wallowing in self-pity, blessed others. (How often do I whine over far less suffering?) To know he is not ill now, but laughing in the presence of Jesus, hearing "Well, done!" is a comfort and inspiration. I'm thankful for Joel and the example of his devoted wife as well.
