I recently enjoyed the movie "Julie and Julia." If you've seen it, you know that the premise is that a young woman decides to take a year to blog about the experience of going through Julia Child's cookbook. She chronicles changes in her life because of the project.
For the last couple of days, an idea has popped onto my heart to make 2010 a year of thankfulness. Scripture directs us to give thanks in all circumstances, but that is sometimes hard to do. But I wonder if I look for unique things to be thankful for every day, or nearly everyday, if that will help keep my attitude and heart in the right place.
So, I am starting a personal challenge of 365 Days of Thanksgiving on my blog. I can't promise I'll post everyday, but by the end of 2010, I hope to have at least 365 unique things to share. While I am thankful for general things like my family, I plan to find more focused, specific things for which to be thankful each day, or at least every few days. I hope to chart how this helps me with my tendency toward worry or control...how it makes me appreciate people more...and above all, how it helps me get closer to God.
You are free to join me if you like...my blog will be the base of this, and you can comment. I'll tag the entries with "365 days of thanks." It will also feed into Facebook (and possibly Twitter) so feel free to add your thanksgivings there, too.
Here's to a wonderful 2010.

Right now I'm doing laundry, and I'm thankful for owning a machine in my home that does the work for me so that I don't have to go to a laundromat or handwash everything in a creek! I can enjoy some computer time while the clothes get clean! Sweet!
